An Insane Saturday/J.A.M.E.S. WATTS

I’ve never been one to post party pictures…ANYwhere; I think they’re overdone as far as the internet is concered, and a tad generic. I mean, is a club the only place people flick it up? Hmmm…most likely — now that I think about it, it’s a good way to make people who don’t know you believe you’re more interesting than you are and that you have a life (when in fact, the other six days of your week, if not spent in a club, are pretty bland).

For this occasion, however, I said fuggit — I was feeling left out. Plus, it’s rare that you have a venue able to hold so many cool people at once…I couldn’t let this historical moment pass me by.

This past Saturday, some of NYC’s best came out in celebration of the homie Hasan Insane’s birthday — apparently, the kid wasn’t even having a party as far as anyone knew, but at the last moment, a celebration spontaneously combusted. Gotta love that.

Now, I know what you MAY be thinking — where’s the relevance? For those who have been living under a rock for the past couple of years, Mr. Insane is one of New York’s most well-known and celebrated independent producers. He’s brought a slew of classic mash-up/remix tapes to the world, including The Pink Album, Perfect Strangers, and most recently, Black Ceasar, a remake of Jay-Z’s American Gangster LP. His soul-infused sound has kept him working closely with such notable indie artists as Skyzoo, AC and Jesse Boykins III; I myself have yet to formally touch down on a Hasan Insane track, but trust, there are a few things in the pot for the near future.

But about those pictures — shouts to E*Star, 1/2 of the Street Cosignors for cockin’ back the Canon!

Janelle Monae/J.A.M.E.S. WATTS

While attending the Lupe Fiasco show last night at S.O.B’s (thanks Alex), I was handed complimentary tickets to see Janelle Monae live at the Highland Ballroom in NYC. All Bad-Boy-signing fuckery aside, I really like this girl’s music.

Too bad I’m stuck here…

working…

on “big things”.

I’m see her “squeak” later though…trust.

New York Glows In The Dark.

Kanye West GITD/J.A.M.E.S. WATTS

Last night I attended the New York City date of Kanye West’s Glow In The Dark tour. Now, I’m not going to give a review of any kind, lest Kanye uninvites me to any future shows because you can find those all over the web, I’m sure.

However, what I will say is that the man is an incredible performer who can hold down an entire arena stage by himself (see: the lack of guests on the set save for Lupe) while reinventing classic songs (see: the vocoder and live drums on EVERYTHING) and rocking tirelessly to keep the show alive. *Tips hat. Props.

Definitely a good time — part of me wants to post more of the photos and video footage that I have, but I think I’m going to avoid getting my YouTube account deleted keep that in the stash for myself. If you couldn’t cop tickets, wait for the DVD…it’ll be worth it.

(Yawn) I’m tired. I’m about to go to sleep. Just after the Carrera Lu show tonight at S.O.B.’s.

Keith Murray Ticketmaster/J.A.M.E.S. WATTS

I guess the cat is out of the bag; I’m going to be performing alongside one of my childhood idols, Keith Murray, at the Knitting Factory on July 3. I’m pretty gassed because this is my first time on Ticketmaster.com — plus, my name’s going to be on the tickets! I’ll post more updates as they’re made available to me.
